Lab Testing

AIHA Lab-Certified Mold Testing

Laboratory analysis provides the science-based, evidence-based confirmation that eliminates questions from all parties. While a certified inspector can identify mold visually, lab testing serves deliberate, strategic purposes — from definitively confirming species to satisfying professional, legal, or insurance requirements. Tanjun partners exclusively with Eurofins Built Environment Testing, an AIHA-accredited laboratory, for all sample analysis.

Types of Samples We Collect

Air Sampling (Spore Traps) Air samples capture airborne mold spores using calibrated air pumps and spore trap cassettes. We typically collect indoor samples along with an outdoor control sample to compare your indoor air quality against the natural outdoor baseline. Elevated indoor spore counts relative to outdoor levels indicate an active mold problem.

Surface Sampling

  • Swab samples — collected from suspicious surfaces using sterile swabs
  • Tape lift samples — clear adhesive tape pressed against surfaces to capture spore deposits
  • Bulk samples — physical pieces of material (drywall, carpet, insulation) sent to the lab for analysis

What the Lab Reports Tell You

Each lab report identifies:

  • Spore types and concentrations — which mold species are present and in what quantities
  • Indoor vs. outdoor comparison — whether indoor levels are elevated above the natural outdoor baseline
  • Species identification — including common species like Cladosporium, Penicillium, Aspergillus, and Stachybotrys, as well as indicator species like Chaetomium and Ulocladium that point to prolonged moisture intrusion
  • Remediation protocol guidance — species like Chaetomium, Stachybotrys, and Ulocladium often indicate sustained water damage and may justify more thorough remediation protocols compared to lighter water damage situations
  • Health risk context — which species are associated with allergenic, pathogenic, or toxigenic effects (note: as inspectors, we do not give medical advice, but confirmed species data gives your healthcare provider useful information)

Turnaround Time

Standard lab results are available within 24-48 hours after sample delivery. Rush processing is available for time-sensitive situations.

Pricing

Lab samples are $95 per sample. A typical residential assessment includes 2-4 air samples (1-3 indoor locations plus 1 outdoor control). Surface samples are added as needed based on inspection findings.

Why AIHA Accreditation Matters

AIHA (American Industrial Hygiene Association) accreditation means the laboratory meets rigorous quality standards for environmental testing. Results from AIHA-accredited labs are accepted by insurance companies, real estate attorneys, remediation companies, and regulatory agencies.

Frequently Asked Questions About Lab Testing

Common questions about our lab testing services.

Depending on customer requests and the property condition, a Tanjun mold inspection may include a visual assessment of areas of concern (and broader areas as applicable), professional moisture and humidity measurements, and thermal imaging when conditions warrant. We document our findings and provide a detailed written report. If sampling is needed, we may collect air or surface samples and send them to our AIHA-accredited lab partner for analysis. The process typically takes 1-2.5 hours depending on the scope and size of the property.

Home mold inspections start at $350 for homes up to 1,500 square feet. This includes moisture readings, humidity measurements, and a detailed findings report with remediation protocol if applicable. Air and surface lab samples are $95 per sample. Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) testing starts at $440 (includes 2 air samples). Post-remediation clearance testing starts at $550. We believe in transparent pricing with no hidden fees.

Yes. Tanjun performs mold inspections and testing exclusively — we do not offer mold removal or remediation services. Since we do not perform remediations, we can avoid conflicts of interest and focus on providing objective assessments and recommendations. Our findings and reports reflect the actual condition of your property.

Standard lab results from our AIHA-accredited partner (Eurofins Built Environment Testing) are typically available within 24-48 hours after sample delivery. Rush processing is available for time-sensitive situations such as real estate transactions or post-remediation clearance. Charles will walk you through every result and explain what the findings mean in plain language.
